Freddie is a playwright, screenwriter and educator. He writes drama with a social conscience and sense of humour, which often revolves around taut, disrupted family dynamics.

His first stageplay, Chicken, was produced at Southwark Playhouse in 2011. He subsequently adapted it to feature film and the movie got its UK cinema release in May 2016. Mark Kermode included it in his best films of that year for the Guardian newspaper and it is now available on MUBI.com.

He has written a number of plays for UK drama schools including The Real Estate, which is published with Nick Hern Books and has been produced more than a dozen times in schools, colleges and universities.

He is an associate artist with Kristine Landon-Smith and associates. He creates and directs headphone verbatim productions in a range of contexts with both actors and non-actors. Headphone verbatim forms the basis of his academic research in his role as Lecturer in Screenwriting at Keele University, where he is designing and developing a number of headphone based projects. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a PGCertHE.

Freddie has taught, directed and written for a number of FDS accredited drama schools including LAMDA, LIPA, Central School of Speech and Drama, Manchester School of Theatre, Drama Studio London, and Italia Conti where he was resident playwright for six years.

He is regularly engaged as a writing tutor on Arvon's residential writing retreats in Yorkshire, Shropshire and Devon. As a writer in residence for First Story he has lead projects in schools and curated and edited two anthologies written by young writers.

Freddie created the City Academy short story competition and chaired the judging panel in 2020 and 2021. 

He continues to be a creative practitioner at Tender, facilitating workshops for young people around consent and delivering staff and teacher training on issues including domestic violence and misogyny. 

He has been part of invitational writing groups at The Orange Tree Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Mercury Theatre Colchester, Criterion Theatre New Writing, The Space, and Theatre Centre.

Freddie initially trained as an actor and has performed on stages across the UK including the Soho Theatre, The Lowry, Shakespeare's Globe, The Mercury Theatre Colchester, and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Freddie has written for a variety of independent newspapers, magazines and website. He was a theatre reviewer for Exeunt and the Hackney Citizen and wrote over 50 features, reviews and interviews for the subscription magazine Drama & Theatre.

He has interviewed the punk poet John Cooper Clarke, Toby Jones and followed the British artist Hayden Kays around Glastonbury 2014.
